Kevin Kovacs Memorial Trophy 2007

This year's trophy was contested between Amblecote and St Mary's at Amblecote's home ground, the Dell Stadium in Brierley Hill. Amblecote qualified as League Champions and hence staged the trophy with St. Mary's competing as Cup winners.

St Mary's won the match 3-1 in convincing fashion with two rare goals from centre-half John Myatt. St. Mary's opened the scoring early on after Amblecote had conceded a free-kick about 30 yards out. The ball was floated over the Amblecote defence where Myatt had ghosted in to slot the ball home. Amblecote drew the scores level through another set play. This time St Mary's had conceded a foul way out on the right flank, ideal for the left-footed Lee Ralph. He planted the ball directly into the net.

St Mary's gradually imposed themselves in the second half and it was the big centre-half, John Myatt who struck again. Once again it was from a set piece, but this time a corner. John had been unkindly christened 'Moanyatt' by his team mates, but it was John Smyliatt and he planted a firm header that gave Dean Russell in the Amblecote goal no chance.

The Amblecote resistance was finally snuffed out as Josh Blunt skinned his defender and placed the ball into the goal. A deserved victory to the stronger team.
