Potted History: Walsall Olympic return after four year break from WMCFL, they had been competing in the Coventry and District Christian Football League. They also have a very illustrious past, dominating WMCFL in the mid-nineties. They took over Chawn Hill Church's mantle, winning the League in 94, 96 and 97, after Chawn had won it three times on the trot in 91, 92 and 93. They were also successful in the Cup, winning the competition in 1994 and 98 and are the last club to win the double. In 1999, due to a large backlog of fixtures, they were forced to play five games over ten days, one of which was the Cup Final which they lost 0-2 to Staffs Moorlands. They were also pipped to the title by Aldridge Parish and perhaps that was catalyst for the beginning of the end of that distinguished epoch. Walsall left the League after finishing bottom of Division One in 2002, and are warmly welcomed back from their Coventry excursion. Ed Walker, June 2006.

2008: Walsall re-entered the League in 2006 and despite having one or two names from the aformentioned era, were clearly not the team that claimed all that silverware back in the mid to late nineties. They struggled in their first season back claiming just five points from eighteen games and finishing a long way adrift at the bottom of the League. What they did win was many friends though. Not just because they handed their opposition the points but it was always commented how sporting the side was, gracious in defeat.

2008 was a different kettle of fish. Walsall were a different animal winning nine matches out of twenty-two, eight more than last year. At times they scored for fun ending the season having bagged sixty-three goals and a plus two goal-difference. With a little more consistency, I'm sure that Walsall will improve as the young lads come of age with experience gained. Ed Walker - June 2008
